Max Lucado wrote "I've wondered what that scene looked like to Jesus.  Here are common soldiers witnessing the most uncommon event in history, and as far as they're concerned, it's just another Friday, and He's just another common criminal.

They were there casting lots, with their heads ducked, eyes down,  and the cross forgotten.  It makes me think of those who "claim" heritage at the cross.  When we forget the Cross, we become like those soldiers.

I am not really up-to-date on the latest slang language, but I learned the term "throwing shade", it is a term that is used when a person is acting shady or suspicious.    Today I'd like to add another term -- THROWING DICE.

Let me explain.  Throwing dice is an act committed by people who have no regard for the significance of the cross; the weight of it's power, or the holiness of those who bear it.

People who "throw dice" are playing games at the foot of the cross.  They are caught-up in Competition, Selfishness, and Personal gain.  And they are doing it all at the foot of the Cross.  

Dice Thrower's are so close to the timbers, yet so far from the blood.  They look like common gamblers huddled in petty gossip groups and fighting over silly, superficial items.  "How many hours have you wasted on the trivial?  Do you specialize in "I'm Right Rallies"?  Do you major in "Tailbearing"?   Do you delight in unveiling the weaknesses of others, while exalting "Self" above the Word of God?
